The “Balcón de Europa”is that beautiful viewpoint located in the center of Nerja. It is one of the most famous places in Andalusia. It is an idyllic place to take a panoramic photo of the Mediterranean Sea or to pose next to the famous statue of Spanish King Alfonso XII King, who baptized this wonderful place on his visit to Nerja after an earthquake occurred in 1884. Fact that occurred when he looked at what was formerly a surveillance point against enemies called Paseo de la Batería and shouted “This is the Balcony of Europe”. It was given the name of “Balcón de Europa, because when looking out it seemed as Europe ended there, the next thing would be Africa, hence the name "Balcony".
The “Balcón de Europa” is a cozy place that all tourists pass through on their visits to the town.
It is located in the center of town and from there you can contemplate several Nerja beaches and the immensity of the Mediterranean Sea, with views of the most beautiful in Spain. It is customary among visitors to take a photo next to the commemorative statue of King Alfonso XII that gave it its name.
