Three must-visit villages of Málaga

Published:

Málaga is famous for its coastal villages and towns, but this region hides some authentic beauties between its forests and mountains. That's the case of the three villages we want to recommend to you: Carratraca, Comares and Genalguacil. Although they are not near the beach or the sea, their views, location and peculiarities make them must-visit places for everyone who wants to have a complete and pleasant experience of the region of Málaga. Maybe you have already heard about Ronda or Frigiliana, but these villages are as lovely and unique as them!
Let's start with Carratraca. This village, of Arabic origin, is famous for the presence of sulphorous waters whose curative properties had already been discovered by the Romans. That's why you can find an attractive Neoclassical spa built in this site. It is still visited by lots of people today and by sufferers of a variety of ailments. If you go there, you cannot leave without trying one of its services! Another interest building is the town hall, with a beautiful architecture and which was inhabited by Trinidad Grund, a famous personality of Málaga. These are not the only places to visit in Carratraca, you'll also find the bullring and the Church of the Virgen de la Salud.
About Comares, the special thing about this village is its views: Comares is located on the top of a mountain, overlooking most of the region of the Axarquia. Comares is so high that when it's cloudy, the clouds are under the village and it feels like being above the sky! However you'll find some other places to visit in here like the remains of the fortress, Masmullar Hill, the Arabic cistern and the church, built in Mudejar style (a special style characteristic of the muslim presence in Spain).
Finally, Genalguacil is an authentic jewel of Andalusia. Its white streets and houses, the enormous and brutal forest that surrounds all the village and its beautiful relationship with Arts turn this little village into a main touristic place (although it's not very known at all). In Genalguacil you will find a baroque church and the Fernando Centeno Contemporary Art Museum (MAC). Nevertheless, the most atracttive aspect of this village is that it's a museum-village: on every august the village invites artists to come here and leave their art pieces, that's why in the streets and by every corner of this place you can find trully masterpieces. These art-meetings have created a nice space which mixes the beauty of the nature, the village and the art pieces disposed all over this location. If you like sports, you can find here some natural walking trails too! Genalguacil has everything you can expect from an Andalusia little village.

Have a nice day! :)
