The main attraction of the Costa Tropical: good weather the whole year

Published:

Dear guest, the Costa Granadina or Costa Tropical is a Spanish region located at the southern end of the province of Granada. It is made up of eighteen municipalities, of which the most populated and extensive is Motril. The city of Motril is also its traditional and historical capital.

It is a relatively steep coast due to the proximity of the mountains of the Betic System, which form cliffs but also coves and beaches, mainly rocky, alternate. There are five tourist centers on the Costa Tropical: Almuñécar, Salobreña, Motril, Castell de Ferro and La Rábita. All are equipped with good tourist infrastructures. All these resorts are ideal for the sports practice like: windsurfing, paragliding, scuba diving, sailing, water skiing, golf, tennis, squash or horse riding.

Climate

The Mediterranean climate prevails on the Costa Tropical. The Sierra Nevada mountain range, with the highest heights of the Iberian Peninsula, protects this coastline from the cold north winds and due to the Föhn effect, which occurs in mountainous reliefs when a mass of warm and humid air is forced to rise to clear that obstacle. This causes the water vapor to cool down and undergo a process of condensation or reverse sublimation, precipitating on the windward slopes where clouds and orographic rains form. When this occurs, there is a strong climatic contrast between these slopes, with high humidity and rains on the windward slopes, and the leeward slopes, as in the case of the Costa Tropical, where the weather is clear and the temperature increases. For this reason, a subtropical microclimate is produced, with 320 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of around 20 ° C.

The climatic conditions of the Costa Tropical have developed a cultivation of exotic tropical fruits unique throughout Europe. This is the case of the cherimoya, which has a designation of origin and has made Spain the world's leading producer of this fruit. There are also crops of papayas, avocados, mangoes, guavas, etc.

Another type of crop typical of the Costa Tropical of Granada is sugar cane, which entered Europe through the Iberian Peninsula and is only grown here from the entire continent.

Dear guest, visit the Costa Tropical, you will find a climate with 320 days of sunshine a year, beaches with a characteristic relief, places where you can practice different sports. In conclusion, visiting the Costa Tropical will be an experience in your life that you will never forget!
