The coves of La Caleta

Published:

Dear guests, in this post we want to talk about what beaches you can find in La Caleta. If you are looking for less crowded and empty beaches, this post is for you. Below the Monte de los Almendros you can find a little village called La Caleta. This little neighborhood of fishermen is famous not only for having one of the oldest factories of sugar and rum in Europe (the Guadalfeo sugar cane factory) but also for being a beautiful natural space. There you can spend your day going across some rocky beaches and coves where the serenity and the peace are guaranteed. The plan of your route could be the following one we want to explain.

First of all, after having tasted some traditional food in the bars you find in this location (Bar Gloria, El puentecillo or La Rebeca), you can relax and take some photos of the beach in the small square of El Lavadero. This particular place is characterised for being almost surrounded by the sea, so you can see all the seabed, the water is nearly transparent!
After this recommended stop, you can follow the path of El Caletón. This is a rocky area where you will see some species of sea animals native of the coast of Granada, so it's preferable to take your diving masks with you. The sea ecosystem is plenty of colourful fishes, seaweed, octopuses, sea anemones and seaslugs: it's like being in a wildlife documentary. However, remember that you have to respect nature so it's forbidden to take animals out of their habitats. This path finishes in a little beach where you can relax, sunbathe or jump into the water and cool down.

Although it's a difficult route, the next site is the beach of El Carrizal. To get there you have to continue walking across the big rocks, It's tiring but also worthy, This little beach it's normally empty so you will only listen to the sound of the sea waves and the wind through the big canes that surround this special beach. Here it's possible to see dolphins over the horizon.

The last beach you should visit is El Pargo, where surely you will be able to take impressive photos of the coast, the coves and the sunset.
If you decide to visit this area, you have to be ready to walk and do some exercise, so we recommend to take food and drinks with you and do a little picnic in any of these beaches: it's a nice experience to know the secret coast of Salobreña and La Caleta, beyond the big areas already known by the majority of visitors.
