Ronda: a place to visit

Published:

Dear guest, Ronda is a Spanish municipality and town belonging to Andalusia, located in the northwest of the province of Malaga, about 100 kilometers from the city of Malaga. Its population is about 34,000.

The city sits on a  cut plateau by a deep gorge excavated by the Guadalevín River, which overlooks the buildings of its historic center, which gives the city a picturesque panorama that, together with the variety of monuments it has, its Natural environment and its proximity to the great centers of mass tourism on the Costa del Sol, has made Ronda a notable tourist center. The cornice of the Tajo and the Puente Nuevo are the image par excellence of the city.

Below I will detail the most emblematic places to visit in this beautiful town:

Puente Nuevo

The Puente Nuevo constitutes the symbol and the soul of the city.

This 98-meter-high bridge masterpiece, built in stone blocks extracted from the bottom of the Tajo gorge, allowed the connection of the modern neighborhood or the Mercadillo with the old quarter of the city and made possible the urban expansion of the city.

Casa del Rey Moro

This monument is made up of: a Muslim-era water mine, a Neo-Mudejar style house and a garden designed by Jean Claude Nicolas Forestier, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1943.

Cueva de la Pileta

The cave art station Cueva de la Pileta is a prehistoric site of Paleolithic wall art and Neolithic remains, discovered in 1905 and declared a National Monument since 1924.

It includes numerous paintings and engravings in the Franco-Cantabrian style with representations of deer, horses, fish, goats, bulls, a seal, a bison, abstract signs and indeterminate figures.

Although the Cave is open every day of the year, it is necessary to make a reservation in advance to make the visit.

Camino del Albacar

The path is about 400 meters long and you can walk it in about 30 minutes and on the way you will find viewpoints with wooden floors.

The route has been equipped with lighting and two viewpoints have been created that have been called the Christ and the Walls, due to their views of the ancient Walls of Ronda.

The Camino del Albacar, leads to the Puerta del Cristo or Puerta de los Molinos, known for having been the industrial estate of the time, the Albacar was a productive area, which brought together milling activities, related to crops and even livestock.

Bullring of Ronda

The Ronda Bullring, for its history, its architecture, its character and its beauty, is recognized as one of the oldest in Spain and one of the most monumental in existence.

The construction lasted six years and was inaugurated in 1785. Its 66 meter diameter arena is surrounded by an alley formed by two stone rings. The lines have five rows of tiers of two floors, with 136 columns forming 68 arches of Tuscan columns, except those of the Royal Box. It has fluted columns and plant decoration on the spandrels and a frieze decorated with rosettes.

Dear guest, I recommend you visit Ronda during your stay. It is a place that due to its picturesque characteristics and its monuments, you will fall in love with. I leave the Google Maps link so you can locate it:
