Caves to see flamenco in Granada

Published:

Dear guest, flamenco is a way of life, and it is not as particular anywhere as it is in Granada. In fact, it even has its own name: the zambra which it is groups of songs and typical dances that symbolize moments of the Calé wedding. In the flamenco caves in Granada you can find the most authentic and pure culture of the Spanish gypsies who sing and dance flamenco.

Sacromonte, together with Albaicín, treasure an authentic expression of flamenco tablao. Two places where this Moorish tradition so characteristic of Andalusia survives.

Zambra de María la Canastera in Sacromonte

This zambra owes its name to María Cortés Heredia, known as "La Canastera" because her father produced baskets (which means canasta in Spanish). She lived with her family in this cave, which has been kept as it should have been in the first half of the 20th century.

For many years, the room where family life took place during the day, at night it became a very frequented place by tourists who were looking for the enchantment of the Gypsy Zambras.

When you visit the cave, dear guest, you will discover from the photos hanging on its walls the many famous visitors who have passed through this cave. The place is located in the Camino del Sacromonte and offers flamenco programs, and shows with dinner and a restaurant with typical dishes.

You can book only the show with a drink or the show with a tasting dinner. They also offer a minibus service for groups that runs through part of the city and the Albaicín before going up to Sacromonte.

The caves of the Tarantos in Sacromonte

In the Sacromonte neighborhood are Las Cuevas de Los Tarantos. Since 1972, Los Tarantos has offered an authentic show of Zambra Gitana.

The temple of Flamenco in the Albaicín

The temple of Flamenco has a large room that represents a typical cave, but with a strange shape of a transept divided into three rooms. The tablao is elevated to make the show more visible.

The artist Antonio Vallejo guides the viewer through the most striking styles of flamenco: cante por bulerías, flamenco love boleros or tangos. The restaurant serves traditional food.

The Venta del Gallo in Sacromonte

This flamenco cave is located in front of the Alhambra, and offers typical gastronomy and flamenco shows where the visitor is trapped by the rhythm of the guitar, singing and dancing in the purest flamenco style.

Recently, the Heredia family has regained the management of the business and is working to restore its own tradition and spirit. Located in an emblematic place of the Sacromonte, it is very easy to distinguish it.

They offer a typical flamenco show from the Sacromonte caves with dancing and singing.
It is a large establishment, with capacity for 100 - 140 people, and has a terrace with views. Groups can book a private dinner.
