Festivity of “La Virgen del Carmen” in Salobreña

The annexes of Salobreña, La Caleta and La Guardia share festivities in honor of the Virgen del Carmen. It used to be celebrated between July 12th and 16th. During a week different sports activities and festivals are carried out, among which the “sardinada” and the popular “verbena” stand out. On the 16th at night the maritime procession takes place. It ends with a fireworks display.

The festivity of the Virgen del Carmen officially begins on the 12th at 7:00 p.m. with the traditional afternoon snack at the Pensionist Household. At 8 pm the Eucharist takes place in the Church of “Nuestra Señora del Carmen” de La Caleta. At 8:30 p.m. there will be parades of “cabezudos” accompanied by the brass band, and from 9 p.m. there will be the “sardinada” in the Plaza de La Guardia. For Saturday the 13th, the domino championship, the Cervezada in the Plaza del Lavadero, a motorcycle gymkhana and the Virgen del Carmen Bands Contest at 9:00 p.m. stand out. From 10:30 pm it is the festival. Tuesday 16th is the great day of the Festivities with the patron saint's mass at 8 in the afternoon, while an hour later the maritime-land procession in honor of the patron saint of fishermen will begin, which is accompanied by numerous boats along the coast of Salobreña until reaching the area of ​​the popular rock. The end of the festivities fireworks are scheduled for midnight.
