Caves of Nerja: an excellent idea for day trips

In the South of Andalusia we can find one of Spain’s most visited natural attractions for visitors from all over the world. This over 5 kilometers long cave system was discovered only a few decades ago in 1959 and is today easily accessible for tourists, with pathways, stairs and show galleries.

In 2012 possibly Neanderthal cave paintings have been discovered, which are approximately over 42,000 years old. The first known work of art in human history!

Till today expeditions are undertaken in order to further explore this vast cave system. The stunning findings of the investigation crews, like for example a real human skeleton, are exhibited for visitors. The diligent team work of local and national geologists, biologists and archaeologists enable a sustainable tourism to explore this unique historic monument. They also allow very interesting insights about their fascinating reasearch.
